Look for an open environment for the soul
Anyone in this life needs an open environment to be able to “fly high” or develop themselves. Phuong Bao Toan is the one who escapes the sudden shock of having disability to seize such an open environment…
“When I participated in a group of people with disabilities, just thinking about the fact that we move with difficulty and receive strange looks from other people, made me feel uncomfortable”, Bao Toan shared his true feeling on the first days at DRD.
Toan’s leg was injured when he was 13 in an accident (caused by a generator). Since then, his life changed completely; no more roaming, flying kite, playing football. He was enclosed in his house, depressed, with the idea that his life was over. When he was in 11th grade, Toan seriously looked back at his life, started to change little by little, asked his parents to let him go to school on his own and do what he wanted…Toan’s life has changed more since he went to Sai Gon to study university and had a chance to reach out to DRD.
Experiencing initial anxiety about being exposed to numerous people with and without disabilities, this student of Faculty of Electronics, University of Industry has gradually accepted himself as a person with disability. This makes it easier for Toan to get along with his life and himself. No more hesitancy and passivity, Toan’s life and studies are as interesting as those of other students who have joys and sorrows, energy and youth. Soft skill courses at DRD helped him study and work more sensibly and systematically. Toan said that DRD is like an open environment for the soul; it is no longer thought that people with disabilities as the weak part of the society!
