Ten years ago, Tinh was a regular student despite his blind eyes. But things became different after the day friends laughed at his disability. Tinh was hurt then gradually began isolating himself from those around him. Entering university, Tinh desired to escape his disabled identity. After one year studying English at Open University HCMC, Tinh realized that he was not interested and had no aptitude for this major, so he decided to pursue Psychology at University of Social Sciences and Humanities instead. “It seems that most of the blind make money by doing massage or selling lottery tickets but I do not want to be like that. I desired to study what I am fond of”, Tinh said. He wanted to gain knowledge to explain the origins of his issues as well as help out the others.
Tinh admitted that comprehending his own issues was not enough; he also needed to escape from them. He had been tormented with bullying for many years. Joining in DRD courses helped Tinh recognize his own values. “I lost my eyes but still have many other capabilities. Disability is not that unfortunate. Other people with disabilities do not let out the roar of misery, why should i have to treat myself like that?” Tinh said.
This simple but dramatic change makes Tinh much stronger. He studies more logically and sets up a detailed plan for his future. He find that people with disabilities still need support, but only when necessary. Even though Tinh has to put more effort on studying than other students, he is not discouraged. He shared that he will work at an orphanage as well as take another job after his graduation. Besides this, his goal is to study abroad on Master of Psychology to pursue his dreams …
